
Johns Hopkins University has initiated whole-genome sequencing of carbapenem-resistant bacteria in Maharashtra, India, as part of a multi-country study funded by the CDC. The GAIHN-AMR study aims to understand the prevalence and emergence of resistance to last-resort carbapenem antibiotics. Sequencing at BJ Medical College, DY Patil Medical College, and P D Hinduja Hospital will identify genetic changes driving resistance, crucial for developing effective treatment strategies against increasingly limited options.
