India's middle-order batter Tilak Varma has sustained an abdominal injury, potentially requiring surgery and a recovery period of three to four weeks. This injury makes him unlikely to participate in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and casts doubt on his availability for the initial matches of the T20 World Cup. Varma was injured while playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot. While a replacement will be named for the New Zealand series, Shubman Gill is reportedly not being considered.
