
The Indian Super League (ISL), since its inception, has struggled to foster sustainability in Indian football despite significant financial backing and popularity. Initially running parallel to the I-League, it became the top-tier league in 2019 with AFC recognition. While attracting marquee players like Diego Forlan and Alessandro Del Piero added glamour, the league has not yet translated this into long-term sustainability for Indian football.
