Iqbal had advised the BCB to prioritize cricketing interests and dialogue over emotional decisions regarding participation in the T20 World Cup in India, amidst strained India-Bangladesh cricketing ties. The remark has drawn strong backlash from current and former cricketers, including Taskin Ahmed and Najmul Hossain Shanto, and the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), who have demanded an apology and questioned the board official's conduct.
