Tennis Kenya has admitted to a mistake in granting a wildcard to Egyptian player Hajar Abdelkader for the ITF W35 Nairobi tournament after her lopsided 6-0, 6-0 loss went viral. Abdelkader committed 20 double faults and won only three points in 37 minutes. Tennis Kenya stated the wildcard was given as she was the only applicant, aiming to maintain a full draw and support African tennis development, but acknowledged in hindsight it should not have been granted. The Egyptian Tennis Federation distanced itself, stating Abdelkader is not registered with them.
