Researchers at IIT Madras have successfully developed and tested ramjet-assisted artillery shells designed to extend the range of conventional gun systems by approximately 50 percent. This innovation integrates a compact ramjet engine into standard 155 mm artillery shells, enabling sustained propulsion after firing. Trials demonstrated significant range increases across various platforms, such as the ATAGS system extending from 40 km to nearly 70 km. This development aims to enhance artillery capabilities without requiring new gun platforms.
