Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok has restricted its image generation and editing features to paying subscribers on X following widespread backlash over the creation of non-consensual, sexualized deepfakes of women and children. While this change aims to curb misuse, several governments, including those in the UK, EU, France, India, and Malaysia, have expressed dissatisfaction, deeming the restrictions insufficient and continuing investigations into the platform's compliance with safety regulations. The standalone Grok app and website reportedly still allow image generation for free users.
