
The Indian government is considering mandating at least 50% local content for components in battery energy storage systems (BESS) used in wind, solar, and standalone projects to reduce import dependence, excluding battery cells. Consultations with public and private sector firms are ongoing, with no final decision yet. Concurrently, the Centre is moving to allocate the remaining 10 GWh capacity under the Production-Linked Incentive scheme to boost domestic advanced chemistry cell battery manufacturing, supporting renewable energy integration and energy transition goals.
