Assam Plans to Supply Surplus Electricity to Bangladesh Following Tripura's Model

Tripura has been supplying electricity to Bangladesh since 2016 through the ONGC Tripura Power Company, with supply sometimes reaching 160 MW. The current Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this arrangement is set to expire in March 2024, with discussions underway to extend it. Following Tripura's example, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed interest in supplying surplus electricity to Bangladesh via Tripura. The two states also discussed widening the National Highway connecting them to improve transport.
