South Korea Sees Limited Immediate Impact from U.S. 25% AI Chip Tariffs

South Korea's Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo stated that the U.S. imposition of a 25% tariff on certain advanced AI chips, including Nvidia's H200 and AMD's MI325X, will have limited immediate impact on South Korean companies, as memory chips they mainly export are excluded. However, Yeo cautioned about potential expansion in a second phase. The U.S. aims to address national security concerns and may impose broader semiconductor tariffs to encourage domestic manufacturing, with additional measures targeting companies not investing in U.S. production.
