Government Reports 377 Aircraft with Recurring Defects Across Indian Airlines Since 2025

Since January last year, 377 out of 754 aircraft across six Indian scheduled airlines were identified with recurring technical defects, according to government data presented in Lok Sabha. The Air India Group had the highest proportion, with nearly 72% of its 267 analysed planes flagged, followed by IndiGo with 148 of 405 aircraft affected. Other carriers like Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air also reported recurring issues. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted extensive inspections and increased technical staff to enhance oversight. Air India stated most defects were low-priority and unrelated to safety, with plans for a retrofit program to address them.
