
In 2025, women accounted for only 11% of home loan approvals across 13 major Indian cities despite representing nearly half the population and about 30% of residential property registrations. While women showed strong homeownership intent and financial participation, their average loan size was Rs 6 lakh lower than men's. Women out-borrowed men only in Gurugram and Noida, with disparities attributed to structural barriers and joint ownership practices in premium markets, according to a report by Urban Money.
