Indian Railways has implemented a calibrated passenger fare hike effective December 26, marking the second increase this year. The revision aims to balance affordability with operational sustainability, with no changes for suburban services and season tickets. Fares for ordinary non-AC services see a graded increase based on distance, while mail and express trains, including AC classes, will see a hike of 2 paise per kilometer. This move is expected to generate approximately Rs 600 crore in additional revenue.
