Coal India Reports 175.5 Million Tonnes Coal Stock to Meet Summer Power Demand

Coal India Limited (CIL) has reported holding approximately 175.5 million tonnes of coal across pitheads, thermal power plants, and transit stocks as of late February 2026, with an additional 60.2 million tonnes of coal exposed and ready for extraction. This three-level buffer system aims to ensure steady supply amid rising power demand during the upcoming summer, driven by increased use of cooling appliances. CIL expressed confidence in meeting peak coal requirements and reducing import dependence despite expected demand growth.
