
The Ahmedabad Consumer Commission has ordered The Oriental Insurance Company Limited to pay Rs 5 lakh, along with interest and costs, for wrongfully repudiating a mediclaim. The insurer cited an alleged pre-existing disease, hypertension, but the commission found insufficient proof of a link to the hospitalization. The commission also noted the insurer failed to establish suppression of material facts and rejected the limitation objection, citing Supreme Court orders extending deadlines during the Covid-19 period.
