
Mizoram reported a financial loss of Rs 114.64 crore in 2025 due to African Swine Fever (ASF), which killed 9,711 pigs and led to the culling of 3,620 others to prevent spread. Since the outbreak began in March 2021 at Lungsen village, over 72,000 pigs have died, affecting more than 12,500 families and causing losses exceeding Rs 1,011 crore. Compensation totaling Rs 14.51 crore has been disbursed till 2023, with a Rs 24.94 crore proposal pending for 2024. The outbreak typically subsides in winter but resurges in warmer months.
