Railway authorities are upgrading the Pune-Lonavla rail corridor to enable trains to run at speeds up to 130 kmph by June 2026, up from the current 110 kmph. The project involves replacing overhead catenary and contact wires and installing Automated Tensioning Devices to maintain wire tension across seasons. Covering 152 track kilometres, 132 have been completed. The upgrade aims to improve safety, operational stability, and reduce travel time by four to five minutes, with work scheduled mainly on Sundays to minimize passenger inconvenience.
