
Construction work has commenced for the fifth and sixth 700 MW Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor units at the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant in Karnataka, following approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). These indigenous technology units, costing around ₹21,000 crore, will increase the plant's capacity to 2,280 MW. The AERB granted permission after thorough safety reviews, aligning with international standards. The project aims for completion within 59 months, with Megha Infra Ltd. as the main contractor.
