India and Canada have formally launched negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aiming to conclude talks by the end of 2026. Initial virtual discussions are underway, with the first formal round expected in April or May. Both countries seek to significantly expand bilateral trade, targeting up to 50-70 billion Canadian dollars by 2030. This initiative follows a reset in economic ties after diplomatic tensions in 2023 and includes addressing issues like non-tariff barriers and customs procedures.
