E. Sreedharan Proposes Rs 54,000 Crore Kerala High-Speed Rail Connecting Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur

Veteran engineer E. Sreedharan has unveiled a revised proposal for Kerala's high-speed rail corridor, spanning 465 km from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur with 20 stations. The project, estimated to cost between Rs 54,000 and Rs 56,500 crore, aims to reduce travel time to about 3 hours and 20 minutes, connecting key airports and easing road congestion. Trains will run at speeds up to 200 km/h with eight coaches seating 560 passengers. The project is planned as a joint venture between the Union and Kerala governments, targeting completion within five years, with operations focused on passenger service and fares comparable to existing rail options.
