India Launches First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Between Howrah and Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, operating between Howrah and Guwahati, marking a new phase in overnight rail travel with enhanced comfort, safety, and reduced journey time by about 2.5 hours. Manufactured by BEML, the fully air-conditioned train features modern amenities including CCTV, ergonomic berths, and regional cuisine. Commercial operations began on January 22-23, with stricter ticket cancellation rules and limited reservation quotas implemented by Indian Railways.
