
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that 98.41 percent of the Rs 2000 banknotes, withdrawn from circulation in May 2023, have been returned. The value of these notes in circulation has dropped from Rs 3.56 lakh crore to Rs 5,669 crore as of December 31, 2025. Facilities for deposit and exchange were available at bank branches until October 2023, and the RBI's offices continue to accept them.
