Employees may accumulate multiple Universal Account Numbers (UANs) due to data mismatches or onboarding errors during job changes. Having more than one UAN can lead to lost interest on inactive Provident Fund accounts, as EPFO may not pay interest on accounts inactive for over three years. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation provides an online process to merge these UANs and consolidate EPF accounts, preventing financial loss and simplifying tax planning.
