UPI Expansion Plans Include Global Merchant Use Cases and Domestic Credit Lines

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is poised for expansion both globally and within India’s credit ecosystem. Pay10’s founder emphasized the need for the government and NPCI to develop merchant use cases and ensure faster settlements abroad, especially for small businesses. Concurrently, India’s retail payments body is negotiating with lenders to introduce low-value credit lines on UPI, featuring credit card-like interest-free periods to increase credit access, particularly for underserved borrowers. These initiatives aim to enhance UPI’s adoption and functionality domestically and internationally.
