The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) recorded its highest-ever property tax collection of over Rs 2,700 crore by December 31, 2025, marking a 45% increase from the previous year. This rise is attributed to enhanced taxpayer outreach, stricter enforcement, and the SUNIYO amnesty scheme, which offers waivers on interest and penalties for clearing current and past dues. The number of registered taxpayers grew nearly 21% to 12.43 lakh, with around 1.7 lakh availing the scheme, contributing Rs 933 crore. However, over six lakh taxpayers remain delinquent, prompting warnings of enforcement actions after the scheme's extension to January 31, 2026.
