Indian Steel Tube Makers Urge Government to Maintain Restrictions on Chinese Imports

The Indian steel tube and pipe manufacturing industry has urged the government to maintain existing restrictions on Chinese firms and equipment imports in power sector projects. The Seamless Tube Manufacturers' Association of India warned that easing these restrictions could harm domestic manufacturing, lead to underutilized capacity, increase banking stress, and cause significant job losses. The industry emphasized its critical role in thermal power projects and cautioned that allowing Chinese imports might result in underpriced products and closure of domestic units.
