The Reserve Bank of India has withdrawn Rs 2000 notes from circulation, effective May 19, 2023, though they remain legal tender. Individuals can exchange these notes at RBI issue offices or deposit them into bank accounts. The exchange facility has been available since May 19, 2023, and from October 9, 2023, RBI offices also accept them for deposit. People can also send the notes via India Post to RBI issue offices for credit.
