
India's unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.8% in December 2025 from 4.7% in November, driven mainly by an increase in urban joblessness to 6.7%. Rural unemployment remained steady at 3.9%. Labour force participation reached 56.1%, the highest this year, supported by gains in rural areas and female workforce engagement. The Worker Population Ratio also improved overall, reflecting gradual employment growth despite the modest rise in unemployment.
