India has 33.37 crore LPG consumers as of December 2025, including 10.56 crore beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which targets rural households. LPG consumption has grown six-fold since 1998-99, with significant increases after PMUY's 2016 launch. States with more PMUY beneficiaries, mainly rural and poorer regions like Uttar Pradesh, consume the most LPG overall, though average household use is lower than in more urbanized states. Growth in consumption has slowed since 2020 due to saturation.
