India has imposed a three-year safeguard duty of up to 12% on certain steel imports to protect its domestic industry from a surge in cheap shipments, particularly from China. The phased tariff, ranging from 12% in the first year down to 11% in the third, aims to shield Indian producers following recommendations by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies due to a sharp increase in imports. This measure excludes some developing nations and specialty products.
