The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) recorded its highest-ever property tax collection, surpassing Rs 2,700 crore by December 31 in the 2025-26 financial year, a 45% increase from the previous year. Registered taxpayers rose nearly 21% to 12.43 lakh, aided by outreach, enforcement, and the SUNIYO tax amnesty scheme, which waived penalties for clearing dues from the past five years. About 1.70 lakh taxpayers used the scheme, contributing Rs 933 crore. However, over six lakh taxpayers still owe dues, with enforcement actions planned after the scheme's extension to January 31, 2026.
