Micron to Acquire Powerchip’s Taiwan Fabrication Plant for $1.8 Billion

Micron Technology announced a $1.8 billion cash deal to acquire Powerchip Semiconductor's P5 fabrication plant in Tongluo, Taiwan. The acquisition will add approximately 300,000 square feet of cleanroom space, enabling Micron to increase its DRAM wafer production starting in the second half of 2027 amid strong global memory demand. Powerchip's shares rose nearly 10% following the announcement. Micron, a major player in memory chip supply, has operated in Taiwan for over 30 years and plans a long-term foundry partnership with Powerchip.
