India Mandates Nationwide Sale of E20 Petrol with Minimum RON 95 from April 2026

The Indian government has mandated the sale of petrol blended with up to 20% ethanol and a minimum Research Octane Number (RON) of 95 across all states and Union Territories from April 1, 2026. This policy aims to reduce oil imports, lower emissions, and support farmers by increasing demand for ethanol derived from crops like sugarcane and maize. Most vehicles made from 2023 onward are compatible with E20 petrol, though older models may experience slight mileage reduction and component wear. Exceptions may be granted in special cases.
