Scientists have discovered naturally mummified cheetah remains in caves near Arar, northern Saudi Arabia, including seven mummies and skeletal remains of 54 others. Radiocarbon dating places these animals between about 130 and over 1,800 years old. The preservation is attributed to the caves' dry, stable conditions and protection from scavengers. This unprecedented find revises understanding of ancient Arabian wildlife and offers insights for conservation, as cheetahs have long disappeared from the region.
