The India-EU free trade agreement (FTA), announced on January 27, includes an annexure on model mediation procedures to resolve trade disputes through a mutually agreed, expedited process with a mediator's assistance. Mediation can be requested by either party if trade measures adversely affect them, but only with mutual consent. The mediator selection must be agreed upon within a set timeframe, or the request is rejected. The procedure aims to reach solutions within 60 days and may consider interim measures. The pact awaits final legal revisions and is expected to be signed and implemented next year.
