Bulgaria officially adopted the euro as its sole currency on January 1, 2026, becoming the 21st eurozone member. For the first month, both the lev and euro will be legal tender, with dual price displays continuing until August. Retailers must provide change in either currency, and ATMs will dispense only euros. Citizens can exchange leva for euros fee-free at banks until mid-2026, and at Bulgarian Posts and the National Bank throughout the year.
