
India has imposed a three-year safeguard duty of up to 12% on specific steel imports, primarily from China, to protect its domestic industry. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies found a sharp increase in imports causing potential injury to local manufacturers. The duty will be applied in a graded manner, decreasing annually, and excludes specialty steel products. This measure aims to curb injurious and sub-standard imports, following months of trade authority scrutiny amid global trade frictions.
