Over 100,000 Women Employed in India's Expanding iPhone Manufacturing Sector

India's electronics manufacturing sector, boosted by the government's 'Make in India' and Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, has created significant employment opportunities for women. Over 100,000 women, many first-time job seekers aged 19-24, work in iPhone assembly plants operated by Foxconn and Tata Electronics. Apple’s production in India has grown substantially, with the company producing about a quarter of its iPhones locally, contributing to around 2.5 lakh direct jobs, nearly 70% held by women. Efforts continue to sustain this growth beyond the current PLI scheme ending in 2026.
