Micron Technology has signed a letter of intent to acquire Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing's P5 fabrication site in Tongluo, Taiwan, for $1.8 billion. The acquisition, expected to close by mid-2026 pending approvals, will expand Micron's DRAM production capacity with significant output anticipated from late 2027. The deal includes a partnership for post-wafer assembly processing and aligns with Micron's broader global expansion, including substantial investments in US manufacturing facilities.
