Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the Department of Telecommunications is evaluating Vodafone Idea's (VIL) situation regarding its Rs 2 lakh crore liabilities, including spectrum dues. He clarified that the government's previous support involved converting Rs 37,000 crore of dues into a 49% equity stake, not a direct subsidy. VIL faces significant payment obligations by March 2026, exceeding its cash flow. Scindia expressed optimism about India's competitive telecom market, which currently has four operators.
