India could save approximately $1 billion annually on crude oil imports by converting 10% of its transport sector's diesel usage to liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to a case study by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The study suggests a potential shift of 30-40% of heavy-haul vehicles to LNG within five to seven years. This conversion could also lead to annual savings of around ₹14,000 crore for end consumers.
