The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposed a Rs 22.2 crore fine on IndiGo for widespread flight disruptions between December 3 and 5, 2025, which led to over 2,500 cancellations and affected more than 300,000 passengers. The penalty includes systemic non-compliance fines and a Rs 50 crore bank guarantee for reforms. While the DGCA cited management and operational shortcomings, pilot unions and some lawmakers criticized the fine as insufficient given the scale of disruption. IndiGo is preparing to comply with revised pilot duty rules as its exemption ends in February.
