The Tea Board plans to implement 100% testing of imported tea to combat the influx of cheap, inferior quality products, particularly from Nepal and Vietnam, which are reportedly harming the domestic industry, including Darjeeling tea. Deputy Chairman C. Murugan assured that infrastructure for this testing will be ready in 15-20 days, followed by legal and ministry approvals. The Board also aims to facilitate industry growth, promote Indian tea abroad, and extend benefits of a Rs 1,500 crore scheme to small growers.
