The Indian government is reportedly planning a Customs amnesty scheme for the Union Budget 2026-27 to resolve legacy disputes. The initiative aims to allow eligible taxpayers to settle pending cases by paying only the principal Customs duty, potentially waiving interest and penalties. This move seeks to free up business capital and expedite government revenue recovery, addressing a significant backlog of cases and arrears estimated at over Rs 24,000 crore.
