
The euro currency is set to mark its 27th anniversary in 2026, having been introduced as an electronic unit in 1999 and physical currency in 2002. Initially adopted by 11 EU nations, the eurozone has since expanded to 20 members, with Bulgaria set to join in 2026. All EU member states are expected to adopt the euro once they meet convergence criteria, with Denmark being the only exception currently.
