Delhi Airport Runway Closure May Lead to Higher Airfares During Maintenance Period

Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi will close runway 11R/29L from February 16 for at least four months for maintenance, potentially reducing airport capacity by 15-20% at times. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) aims to maintain around 1,514 daily flight movements despite the closure. Airline executives warn that even minor disruptions during peak summer travel could lead to fare increases of about 5%, as reduced capacity typically pushes prices up. Airlines have been asked to adhere to strict schedules to minimize delays.
