President Donald Trump has ordered the divestment of a 2.9 million computer chips deal between Emcore Corp. and HieFo Corp., citing national security concerns and potential Chinese control. The executive order, issued Friday, mandates HieFo, reportedly controlled by a Chinese national, to divest Emcore's chip assets within 180 days. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) identified national security risks related to intellectual property and potential diversion of supply. The deal was initially announced in May 2024 during the Biden administration.
