India's First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Start Operations on Kamakhya-Howrah Route

India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train will begin commercial operations between Kamakhya (Guwahati) and Howrah from January 22-23, 2026. Operated by Northeast Frontier Railway, the semi-high-speed train covers 972 km in 14 hours with 13 stops. It offers 823 berths across AC 1, 2, and 3-tier classes, featuring advanced safety systems like KAVACH and amenities including bio-vacuum toilets and regional cuisine. Ticket bookings are open online and offline, with fares higher than existing trains but justified by enhanced facilities. Hygiene improvements include removable blanket covers to address passenger concerns.
