Indian Railways is undertaking a phased plan to double its originating capacity by 2030, with New Delhi Railway Station undergoing a significant revamp. The station will see two new buildings constructed, expanding its built-up area from 17,274 sqm to 109,000 sqm. These new facilities are designed to handle seven lakh passengers daily, up from the current four lakh, and will integrate with city transport systems. This initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance infrastructure at ten stations in the Northern Railway zone.
