India's sugar output for the 2025-26 season has been revised down 4.4% to 28.3 million tonnes from an earlier estimate of 29.6 million tonnes, according to the All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA). Adverse weather, including excessive rainfall and cloudy conditions in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, affected sugarcane yields. Despite the reduction, output is expected to remain above the 26.2 million tonnes produced in 2024-25. Gross production is projected at 31.5 million tonnes, with 3.2 million tonnes diverted for ethanol.
